AXA TÜRKİYE AND T-RUPT COLLABORATE ON EARTHQUAKE RISK MODELING
AXA Türkiye and T-Rupt have entered into a strategic collaboration to strengthen earthquake risk assessment and risk management capabilities in Türkiye. Through this partnership, T-Rupt's CatMod earthquake model, developed specifically to reflect Türkiye's seismic risk characteristics, will be integrated into AXA's risk management processes to support more detailed and locally informed earthquake risk analysis.
Aiming to strengthen analysis and assessment processes related to earthquakes, one of Türkiye’s most significant catastrophic risks, AXA Türkiye is bringing together local scientific expertise with the AXA Group’s global experience in risk management and earthquake modeling through its collaboration with T-Rupt. The partnership aims to support a more detailed and technical evaluation of earthquake risk, enhance disaster preparedness capacity, and contribute on sustainable protection.
At the center of the collaboration is CatMod, T-Rupt's earthquake catastrophe model, developed based on Türkiye's seismic and geophysical characteristics. The model successfully completed AXA Group Risk Management's comprehensive evaluation and scoring process, achieving strong performance against global standards. This recognition demonstrates the growing contribution of locally developed scientific solutions to international risk management practices.
AXA Türkiye Chief Underwriting Officer P&C and Reinsurance Barış Altın, said:
“Accurately understanding and quantifying earthquake risk is the first step toward strengthening financial resilience against natural disasters. At AXA Türkiye, through our Preventive Insurance approach, we believe insurance should go beyond being a safeguard activated after a loss occurs. It should help anticipate risks, mitigate their potential impacts, and better prepare society for future challenges.
This collaboration with T-Rupt brings together Türkiye-specific scientific expertise and the AXA Group’s global risk management experience. Leveraging CatMod’s enhanced analytical and modeling capabilities, developed through deep local knowledge and the expertise of a highly qualified professional team, we aim to assess earthquake risk more accurately, strengthen our decision-making processes, and provide sustainable protection to our policyholders.
We are particularly proud that a locally developed technology has delivered results that are even stronger than those of some of the world’s most widely recognized models in global evaluations, and we highly value the opportunity to contribute to the continued development of this solution.”
Prof. Dr. Sinan Akkar, Earthquake Modeling Leader at T-Rupt, commented:
“We are delighted to collaborate with AXA Group Risk Management and AXA Türkiye. The successful completion of AXA's comprehensive evaluation process is an important validation of the scientific foundations and technological capabilities behind CatMod. Beyond the technical achievement, this collaboration demonstrates how local expertise can contribute to global risk management practices and create value for the insurance industry through advanced, science-based solutions.”
AXA and T-Rupt believe that this collaboration will contribute not only to the advancement of risk assessment processes but also to Türkiye’s broader efforts to improve disaster preparedness and resilience. Through this initiative, both organizations aim to set an example for science-based partnerships within the industry and support a deeper understanding and more effective management of earthquake risk.
