Characteristic rupture sequences along North Anatolian and Eastern Anatolian Fault Zones

The animations represent the time-dependent occurrence of characteristic earthquakes along the North and East Anatolian Fault Zones (NAFZ and EAFZ, respectively). The rupture sequence in the animations approximately display the characteristic earthquake activity for the last 2000 years from present time. The ruptured segments of the characteristic earthquakes and their occurrence years rely on the paleoseismological studies performed on NAFZ, EAFZ, and northern Dead Sea Fault Zone (Cabcı et al., 2025; Meghraoui et al., 2003; Yönlü et al., 2017; Yönlü, 2012; Akyüz et al., 2006). Besides, the historical data of EAFZ compiled by Ambraseys and Melville (1995) is also used during this process.

The presented characteristic events are part of CatMod's earthquake catalog.
